I know a TON of singers, which makes sense because I am one. Singers tend to hang out with and talk to other singers, and often times you’ll find them hanging out at their favorite karaoke bar with their other singer friends. (Sidebar: in college, I was called “The Karaoke Hustler” because any time I needed to buy groceries or pay rent, I’d go find a karaoke contest and try to win some dough.)
I’m lucky to know a ton of musician-type friends and also play piano, but I know many singers don’t have that luxury. I can’t tell you how many times I get asked about finding good backing tracks to use, and since I’ve been giving this site out forever and a day, I thought I’d actually post a link to it here:
Often times with my students, they choose songs that require a rhythm section or are dance tracks – songs that don’t translate well with piano accompaniment. For these tunes, I get the tracks from karaoke-version.com. I have always found what I needed on there – whether it was a pop tune, country tune, broadway song or a standard. The quality is really great, and they even have a transpose function so you can raise or lower the key.
You can get the tracks with or without backing vocals, and when you buy the track, they offer you an option to get the “lead” track for reference at about 50% off the regular price. And truth be told: I now have an affiliate account with them, so when you clicky-click and purchase a track (only $1.99 - HOLLAH!)

2) Record yourself or a group of friends singing the song in a video. If you’d prefer to use audio-only, just upload a picture to your video and add the song only. (If a group video wins, the prize must be split)

4) You must put a link to this blog post (*) in the notes of the video.
5) You can enter as many times as you like, but each individual song must have the URL link posted in the comments section of this blog entry.

It’s been a while, lovelies. Most of you know why already, but it’s because I’ve become completely engrossed in quite possibly the most romantic summer of my life. It’s been a whirlwind and unbelievably amazing with some serious changes ahead for me (stay tuned)!

Thank you all for the very nice comments about the pics from the weekend and my new relationship. I’m going to tell you all the “story of us” soon, but you’ll never see a photo of him. He’s a music teacher in a public school, does not use Facebook, and is very, very private. I respect that privacy. I can tell you all about him and us, but no pics. But I’ll describe him! lol He’s 6’1, dark hair, blue eyes, thin/athletic build, and his name is Jake. And for those of you who know me from school, yes, THAT Jake.
