I’ve been hearing a lot about “BB” creams lately, and I didn’t really know what all the fuss was about. I did a little research, and found this Boston Globe Article that explained what they are:
The list of benefits tends to be impressive for most of these creams, with the life-improving effects stopping just short of walking on water. OK, maybe that’s an exaggeration, but for women who apply a moisturizer, a primer, a foundation, a setting powder, and an SPF sunscreen every morning, BB creams seem like a small miracle. These are one-step products that can protect, conceal, and correct skin texture and tone.
Well, looking at my tired- 41 yr old skin, I wanted to give it a try. I went out and bought Rimmel London’s BB cream 9-IN-1 Skin Perfecting Supermakeup, which contains SPF 25 Sunscreen, and seems like a good bargain for the $7.99 price tag at CVS. So, off I went to try this new morning routine.
I used no moisturizer and only a small amount of concealer under my eyes and on the bridge of my nose. After that, I used the BB Cream – which feels like BUTTAH. I really liked it. I expected it to be heavy considering all the things it does, but it goes on VERY smoothly and a little goes a long way. From the website:
Rimmel’s 1st 9-in-1 Skin Perfecting Super Makeup 9 in 1 results: Primes, moisturises, minimizes pores, conceals, covers, smoothes, mattifies, brightens, and helps protect. Lightweight, ultra comfortable formula instantly gives a flawless, 100% natural finish. SPF 25
Here are some un-retouched photos (I wanted to be as honest as possible about the review, and I’m 41, not 25, and I know it’s important to be able to see what a product REALLY does). So here goes:
Bare skin (remember, yo, I’m 41, hence why my skin needs somecosmetic help):
This amount covers approximately 3/4 of my face and neck. I only needed to use slightly more for full coverage:
Here’s my skin just after using the Rimmel BB Cream:
And here’s the finished look. Full disclaimer of stuff that went on AFTER the BB Cream: blush, liquid eyeliner, mascara, lipstick:
I’m pretty pleased with the coverage and feel of the makeup. Despite needing to get a good dose of California sun, I think the makeup looks pretty even and definitely worked out a lot of the flaws from the first pic. It went on in seconds, and my skin feels exactly the same as it would if I had applied moisturizer first. In fact, it feels even better if I’m being honest. Skipped a step, and got a way less-greasy feeling after using it.
I think Rimmel’s BB Cream is a really great value, and you can’t beat the convenience of being able to pick it up at any store.
Up next: to find an age-defying BB Cream with pigment/foundation(light, obviously). If anyone has any recommendations, I’d love to hear them!
