Seeing it again just reminds me of how much I absolutely adore Tim Gunn. Honestly, he’s just as sweet in person as you think he would be! Because ABC doesn’t announce brand names on air, I thought I’d let you know some of my favorites. I am a typical “apple” shape, meaning all of my extra weight is carried in my abdomen, so I am constantly on the lookout for great shaping products that will help me with that.

See this shaper over here on the left? I am ABSOLUTELY. IN. LOVE. with it. This is my new favorite shaper for dresses. During the spring and summer, I wear dresses almost exclusively, so slip shapers are key for more. This one is the absolute BEST slip shaper I have ever worn. It’s the Flexees Firm Control Slip with Lace, and it ROCKS.
This was sent to me to review, and I was completely blown away by how awesome it truly is. Not only is it a slip shaper, but it has a built-in bodysuit (with hook-eye panty – easy for the ladies room!), so you get DOUBLE the shaping compression. I ordered by bra size (38D), so I was a little concerned that it might be too small. No need to worry – it fit PERFECTLY. Yesterday was a whirlwind of events for me! At 5:00 am, I was on the high-speed Acela Amtrak train to New York City. Note: I had never been on that train before, and I kept saying that I was going to arrive in NYC “shaken, not stirred.” The train is super-fast, but it also tosses passengers around like rag dolls. I was VERY motion sick, but happy that I arrived in NYC at 8:45 am at Penn Station for my 9:00 appointment with ABC’s “The Revolution.”
I walked about five blocks to the studio, and immediately started remembering how much I loved living in New York. In fact, the ABC studio was right around the corner from my old apartment there, and I wish I had more time to hang out in the city, but I had a super-tight schedule to abide by. I got to the ABC studios by 9:00 on the dot, and was immediately met by some really nice interns who brought me up to the studio.
Unfortunately, they made me sign a non-disclosure form, so I can’t talk in detail about the day events. I can only let you know we talked about weight loss surgery and shapers, and I met one of the very few people on TV that I truly adore: Tim Gunn. In fact, I was walking up to the green room in the hall and he recognized ME! (WHAT?!!?) He said, “Oh, hello, Taunia. We’re going to have fun today!” He shook my hand and then we parted ways until the taping.
We did our segment, and I asked him for a photo afterwards, and without batting an eye, he said, “of course!”
Honestly, he’s SUCH a nice man and was so complimentary to me about my weight loss and just kept telling me over and over again how amazed he was at the difference and how proud he was that I’d kept it off for so long. The staff had only wonderful things to say about him too. He’s adored for a reason – he’s genuine and really sweet. So glad to have met him in person.

Last night, Slimpressions was part of my Halloween costume: the midriff is pretty exposed in this, so lumps were not an option. And guess what?! I was at Extreme Dance Sports Halloween Costume Party in Cambridge, MA last night – and my costume won first place! Thank you, Slimpressions, for letting me shake and shimmy on the dance floor. lol
I can’t believe it’s taken me as long as it has to write a written review for Slimpressions considering I pimp them out at every possible second because I love them so much. Check them out (review below):
Here are the pieces I’ve tried and love and why:
TANKS A LOT (SKU: TK103): I wear this CONSTANTLY, most especially when I’m dancing with the Diva Dolls or at the gym. Weight loss has been awesome for me except for the fact that ALL of my excess skin resides in my middle section, which can making leaping around in twirls and hip shimmies a whole lot of hell if I’m not properly strapped in. Add to that that I’m generally sweating because I’m being like, active yo, this is the perfect thing to hold everything in place where it should be. Even better, it stretches to cover the poochy area and holds all THAT in too. (Now if only they could help give me some booty…)
THE HAVES (SKU: H100): This is my go-to piece for layering in fall thru spring. With 3/4 sleeves that end at the elbow, it makes anyone’s arms look shapely and perfect! The scoop neck is really flattering and again, it keeps everything in place just where it should be. I like to wear a lot of semi-sheer tops, so this works perfectly for that.
THE SKINNY MINI (SKU: SM102): If you’re going to buy only one piece, this is the one to get because it’s perfect for year round. Adjustable spaghetti straps, perfect for layering, but also great under a tank during the summer. I have about 17 of these. lol
TUMMY TUCKER CONTROL BRIEF (SKU: CB108): Ok, here’s something about me that you probably don’t want to know: I only like to wear cotton breathable panties. Yeah, granny panties – I love em. But, let’s face it: 1) they offer NO support and 2) they’re really ugly. I like these control briefs because they’re lightweight and you don’t feel like a sausage in them, and also because they make my (lack of) booty look good!
FULL CUT PANTY (SKU: FBC107): As mentioned before, my poochy area is not all that sex-ay. These panties are like the ones above in texture and booty-patrol, but it’s cut a bit fuller for more coverage. LOOVE these, and wear them all the time for burlesque practice.
COMING UP: The “Have Nots.” I’ve never tried these and I have NO IDEA why. I’m about to set the girls free, and I’ll keep you posted….
